\t\t\t\tSeven days\u00a0seems like a long time having not put fingers to keyboard here and I’ve missed it.<\/p>\n
Indeed, it has just\u00a0been one of those most irritating sort of weeks where there\u00a0has always been something demanding my immediate attention –\u00a0leaving\u00a0me absolutely no\u00a0provision\u00a0for carrying out\u00a0any essential maintenance\u00a0tasks\u00a0such as\u00a0eyebrow\u00a0sculpting, moisturising\u00a0 elbows or engaging in\u00a0full body exfoliation\u00a0(my plan is I don’t have to give up cream cakes if occasionally I can just\u00a0‘sand’ bits off my person). I\u00a0have however become\u00a0resigned to the fact that in times such as these you just have to let yourself go a little, so\u00a0this week I’ve made do with a bit of lip balm and avoided\u00a0unflattering lighting….<\/p>\n
Plus moustaches are ‘hot’\u00a0this season\u00a0according to my friend Hannah (pity she was\u00a0talking about\u00a0Tom Seleck at the time)…<\/p>\n
The major disappointment of this week however, is that\u00a0despite my apparent\u00a0busyness I have relatively little to show for\u00a0my hard graft\u00a0apart from a Telecommunications Register, a half finished essay and a\u00a0stunning\u00a0Shepards Pie with sweet potato and baked beans (not to blow my own trumpet – in a hypothetical sense of course)….<\/p>\n
In fact I\u00a0was probably of most use at the Doctors yesterday morning\u00a0when I took on the role\u00a0 of ‘Phlebotomist Guinea Pig’, allowing\u00a0(clearly\u00a0a student) nurse\u00a0perform\u00a0what was\u00a0possibly her first\u00a0ever blood test. In all fairness to the girl, she did pretty well achieving three of those little test tubes full of my red stuff (forever disappointed it doesn’t come out blue) although her technique did have a little to be desired…<\/p>\n
“Right I’m going to put this needle in your arm”<\/p>\n
“ok<\/em>…”<\/em><\/p>\n “You will feel a sharp prick….”<\/p>\n <She inserts needle into my arm and starts drawing blood><\/p>\n ….”Now”.<\/p>\n I have to admit to being a little confused as to whether this was\u00a0a delayed reaction on her part\u00a0or mine –\u00a0but still my very smiley and enthusiastic\u00a0nurse did give me the biggest lump of cotton wool you have ever seen to mop up\u00a0her efforts, and secured\u00a0it well with a\u00a0healthy amount of surgical tape to boot. Indeed, my most impressive dressing\u00a0survived 2 full blown washes\u00a0AND a bath, and probably still had\u00a0enough life in it to undergo some serious\u00a0pressure hosing without peeling away at the edges. This morning\u00a0however, I was painfully\u00a0forced to remove most of\u00a0my nurse’s\u00a0proud creation\u00a0with some cuticle scissors as my long sleeved blouse wouldn’t fit over the small woollen hillock protruding from my upper arm…<\/p>\n Unfortunately this\u00a0was\u00a0a task a little\u00a0more\u00a0easily said said than done, and\u00a0I’ve had to leave some\u00a0of the excess\u00a0binding in\u00a0certain places where the tape and my skin have formed a special relationship with each other – particularly about my elbow –\u00a0so after a lot of yelping and a few tears, I have decided to let them\u00a0part company on their own terms.<\/p>\n There is no point forcing the issue.\u00a0<\/p>\n So\u00a0all in all that has been my week which has seen me\u00a0a little stressed, a little unkempt, and develop a whole new respect for medical students armed with anything adhesive…<\/p>\n I’m just glad that (given I was wearing my\u00a0favourite jacket) \u00a0I’m old enough my bright young nurse\u00a0didn’t feel the need to\u00a0give me an ‘I have\u00a0been brave’ sticker.<\/p>\n Wonder how long it would have taken me to get that off….<\/p>\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\t\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Seven days\u00a0seems like a long time having not put fingers to keyboard here and I’ve missed it.
